Kitesurf Lessons Dubai

KiteSurfSUP has taught kitesurfing in Dubai since 2010. Lessons run at two public kite zones: Jebel Ali Public Beach and Ness Nass Beach. Both are legal teaching beaches with warm water and a usable thermal wind most of the year.

Who lessons are for

Complete beginners who have never flown a kite. Riders who started years ago and want a clean restart. Visitors who have one week in Dubai and want a structured block of hours. We do not put first-timers on a board on hour one. The IKO pathway exists so you leave with control, not a lucky 20-metre ride and no idea how you got there.

Where we teach

Jebel Ali Public Beach is the main school beach. Wide kite zone, shallow inside the shoreline, flat water in the lagoon, parking on the beach road. Best for first sessions and waterstarts.

Ness Nass Beach sits in Jumeirah. Closer to the city, still a dedicated kite area. Good when the forecast and your hotel line up on that side of town.

We confirm the beach the morning of the lesson. Wind direction and crowd density decide it, not a hotel name.

IKO pathway

Discovery (about 3 hours). Land work first: wind window, safety systems, kite setup, launching and landing. Then a trainer or full kite on the sand until your hands stop fighting the bar.

Water control (hours 3–8). Body drag downwind and back upwind. Water relaunch. Board recovery. This is the block most people want to skip. It is also the block that stops you swimming after a kite for the rest of your riding life.

Independent (through 10 hours, conditions and ability allowing). Waterstart, riding both directions, a controlled stop, the first upwind boards. Some riders get there in 8 hours. Some need more. Extra hours are available. We do not invent wind to hit a marketing number.

Taster vs a full course

The taster is two hours or a short first block at AED 300. You leave knowing whether you like the sport. You do not leave as a rider.

The 10-hour private course is AED 3,300 — AED 330 per hour. That is the rate to use when someone asks “what do lessons start from”. Single extra hours exist above that package. Book the block if you are here to finish the pathway, not to sample it.

Private vs semi-private

Private is one student, one instructor, one kite plan. Fastest progress. Best if you have limited days or you learn better without an audience.

Semi-private is two students who are a similar level — partners, friends, parent and teen. Cheaper per person. Slower if one of you is clearly ahead. We will not pair a first-timer with someone who already rides upwind.

Group slots exist for families who arrive together. We cap numbers. A beach full of strangers sharing one instructor is not how we teach.

What a first session looks like

Meet at the agreed beach after we have checked the forecast. Short briefing, harness on, kite on the sand. You will fly. You will put the kite down. You will talk through what the bar just did. If the wind is honest we move toward the water. If it dies we stop and reschedule that hour. You are not charged for a sitting-on-the-sand weather day.

What to bring

Swimwear, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, water, a hat that stays on, sunglasses with a strap. We supply kite, bar, board, harness, helmet and impact vest. Soft-soled shoes help on Jebel Ali shell. Leave jewellery in the car.

Requirements

You must be able to swim. Minimum age is usually 12 for a full kite pathway; younger riders are assessed on the beach, not over WhatsApp. We need honest height and weight so the kite size is not a guess. Bad backs, recent surgery and zero time in the sea — tell us before you drive.

Price snapshot

Taster from AED 300. Private 10-hour course AED 3,300. Two-hour, four-hour, six-hour and eight-hour private blocks sit between those two. Semi-private is priced per person on the product page. All lesson gear is included.

FAQ

How many hours to ride on my own? Most people who book the 10-hour private block and get usable wind leave able to waterstart and ride both ways. Upwind lock-in varies.

Do you teach in summer? Yes, when the wind is there. Midday June–August is hot. We start earlier or wait for the afternoon thermal. Hydration is not optional.

Can I use my own kite? For lessons we use school gear so the safety systems match what the instructor expects. Bring your own later for rental if you already ride.

What if I miss a day? Hours sit on your booking. We burn them on wind days, not on the calendar date you first hoped for.
