Learn to Wing Foil

Wing foiling (or wingsurfing) is an exciting, accessible water sport blending elements of windsurfing, kitesurfing, standup paddleboarding (SUP), and foiling. Below is a detailed overview of the wing foiling course you provided, along with insights to help you understand what to expect and how to prepare.

Course Structure

Level 1: Introduction to Wing Foiling (1 -2 Hours)

The session we introduces the foil board (hydrofoil) when you on the water and start to learn.

  • Introduction to Equipment and Safety: Learn about the board, wing, and essential safety protocols to ensure a secure learning environment.
  • Holding the Wing: Understand how to grip and control the inflatable wing, which is key to harnessing wind power.
  • Wind Awareness and Wing Management: Gain knowledge of wind direction and how to position and maneuver the wing effectively.
  • Starting on the Board: Practice with the board attached with the hydrofoil from the water.
  • Standing on the Board: Develop balance to stand confidently while holding the wing.
  • Staying Upwind: Learn techniques to maintain your position against the wind, preventing drifting downwind.
  • Cruising Around: Begin moving across the water, combining wing control and board balance for smooth navigation.

Purpose: This level builds foundational skills, focusing on balance, wing control, and wind awareness, preparing you for more advanced techniques.

Level 2: Foil Board Training (3 - 4 Hours)

This session introduces the foil board (hydrofoil), which lifts the board above the water for a smoother, faster ride. Skills include:

  • Introduction to Hydrofoil and Wing Safety: Understand the foil board’s mechanics and additional safety considerations due to the hydrofoil’s sharp edges.
  • Equipment Management: Learn how to carry and set up the foil board and wing, transitioning from beach to water.
  • Starting on the Foil Board: Practice mounting the foil board, which requires different balance compared to a SUP.
  • Standing on the Foil Board: Develop stability while standing on a board that’s elevated by the hydrofoil.
  • Staying Upwind: Apply upwind techniques to maintain control on the foil board.
  • Cruising Around: Navigate the water while managing the wing and foil board.
  • Achieving Lift: Learn how to engage the hydrofoil to lift the board above the water, reducing drag and enhancing speed.

Purpose: This level transitions you to the foil board, teaching you to harness the hydrofoil’s unique lift for a thrilling ride.

Complete Course (8 Hours)

  • Combines Level 1 and Level 2 into a comprehensive 8-hour program.
  • Covers all skills from both levels, providing a complete progression from SUP-based wing foiling to mastering the foil board.
  • Offers extended practice time to reinforce skills and build confidence.
  • Note: The extended duration allows for more personalized instruction and practice, but the course acknowledges that not everyone will master foiling by the end due to individual learning paces.

**Please note, all of us learn at different speeds. It is not guaranteed that you will be up and riding the foil buy the end of the course. But, you will be able to competently practice alone and we are always on hand to give advice when you are out on the water. Additional hourly tuition is also available

Insights and Tips for Learners

  1. Is Wing Foiling Right for You?
    • Wing foiling is accessible to beginners, including those without prior water sports experience, due to its relatively gentle learning curve compared to kitesurfing or windsurfing.
    • The sport appeals to a wide range of enthusiasts, from windsurfers to non-water sports participants, making it versatile and inclusive.
    • The minimum age (10) and weight (25 kg) requirements, along with the need for basic swimming ability, ensure it’s safe for kids and adults alike.
  2. What to Expect
    • Level 1 is ideal for total beginners, focusing on balance and wing control on a stable board. Expect to spend time getting comfortable with the wing’s inflatable nature and learning how wind affects movement.
    • Level 2 introduces the foil board, which can feel challenging due to the board’s elevated, less stable nature. Patience is key, as achieving lift requires precise weight distribution and wing control.
    • The Complete Course offers the best value and provides ample time to progress from beginner to intermediate skills.
  3. Preparation Tips
    • Physical Prep: While no extreme fitness is required, core strength and balance (e.g., from yoga or basic workouts) can help with board stability.
    • Sun Protection: Dubai’s intense sun makes sunscreen, a hat, and hydration critical.
    • Mental Prep: Be patient, as foiling can take time to master. The course’s flexible approach (with additional tuition available) ensures you can progress at your own pace.
  4. Safety Considerations
    • The emphasis on IKO standards and certified instructors ensures a safe learning environment, but remain mindful of the hydrofoil’s sharp edges in Level 2.
    • Wearing the provided lifejacket and helmet is non-negotiable for safety.
  5. Why This Program Stands Out
    • The use of premium Naish equipment and low-usage gear ensures reliability and performance.
    • Scheduling lessons during optimal conditions reflects a commitment to quality learning, as poor wind or water conditions can hinder progress.
    • The availability of ongoing advice post-course supports independent practice, making this program beginner-friendly yet focused on long-term skill development.
